The Learnings from Actually Showing Up and Teaching Yoga!
Plus, choosing rest over "busy" and the usual recos..
Hello friends!
I started teaching yoga for real this week! I was pretty nervous. Not because of the teaching element so much, I love an audience. But more because I want it to be good. I worry it won’t be good enough. Which is a theme for me, not being good enough.
So I just kept going and did it anyway. I know it wasn’t the best yoga class those women will ever do but I did it and I have to keep doing it to get better. It’s funny that I know all the self help coach-ey things I need to say to myself and I could very easily coach someone else, but when it comes to myself doing it I can get stuck, still…
But I did it and we’re off!
It has been such a good reminder that you learn SO much when you actually start doing the thing. I have a habit of getting stuck in the theory, the learning, but really it’s not until you actually start DOING the thing that you learn so much.
So it’s been great and I am excited to get in to it, to really start to develop my teaching style.
Things have been “full” lately…”
It feels like things have been very full lately.. I hate to use the word busy as it’s such a loaded word. I see so many people using it as a way of seeming better than, or more than. Like they are the busiest people in the world which makes them better? I would say it’s really coming from a place of not enough-ness, or feeling like they need to be busy to feel worthy.. It’s a real trap especially for women! But I also see it in men, particularly farming men, who wear “busy” like a badge of honour, even if they perhaps aren’t actually being that productive..
I mean it’s all a choice right? If you’re too busy, and you’re overwhelmed and resentful, then you need to make different choices, or just get on with it. But noticing how being busy makes you feel is key..
So anyway, this weekend we were meant to go to Adelaide to watch my nephew rowing and we decided that there was just too much going on and we all needed a quiet weekend at home. Tim and the kids have been sick, harvest has started, the vet clinic is opening in a few weeks, the Airbnb has been flat out and I’ve started teaching yoga! So there’s quite a lot happening. So we had to make a choice.. Rest or more busy?
To be honest, I actually wish we had gone.. It’s one of those times when maybe we should have just done it even thought it would have been hard.. But at the same time I know that we will all feel a lot better this week because we chose to do less and rest. So hard to do, especially for me who hates missing out! But I am sure we will all feel better for it at such a busy time of the year…
Social Media..
Quite a few of you had thoughts about social media as well! So interesting that so many of us aren’t posting any more or are feeling the conflict with it all!
I noticed that even Abbie Chatfield was saying if you’re not using TikTok for business then get off it. I have never had TikTok, just refused to go there as I know what a sink hole of time wasted BS it is. It’s even worse than instagram and I knew I’d be addicted.
There seems to be general consensus among people I know that it is still very effective for business but no one really enjoys it much these days.. Just something you have to do for promotion. And in terms of using it - people don’t seem to feel good after consuming it either! I also saw an article about a group in Kiama that have started doing off screen things in their community which i loved the idea of! Might have to think about doing something like that here! Maybe dance and yoga is enough for now…

This interview with Billy Garvey on Josh Szeps was a ripper. Billy just seems like the best guy. So knowledgeable and compassionate and just such an expert, but also so real. He’s also in this article in The Age Good Weekend this weekend about parenting. A pretty good article. What I take from it - Parents need to sort their own shit out first. Which I 100% agree with. Parenting is so hard, being a human is hard. If you are having trouble with parenting, looking inwards first can be a huge help (so hard) but so effective!
The Wedding People - I just finished reading this and quite enjoyed it. Easy reading, good story, quite an insight in to the main character Phoebe’s internal thoughts.
Investing and The Australian Shares Podcast - continuing on the money theme a bit, if you don’t already invest in anything, it might be time to start. Obviously I am not a money expert, but, what I’ve learnt is that investing shouldn’t be something you put off until one day when you have enough money, because you’ll never have “enough” you’ll just spend what ever you have with that mindset.
The mindset needs to be that what ever you earn you put a percentage in investments. That’s what I am teaching the kids. So even if they only make 100 bucks a week, 10% of that or even 20% should go to investing in shares, another 20% to saving and the rest to do what you want with. Hopefully teaching them that early will help to set them up for the future! I wish someone had taught me that as a teenager! Maybe you guys are all on to this already though!
Also in The Good Weekend and the front cover this week was an article about Sarah Wilson, which I thought was really good. This could have gone either way when it comes to Sarah but I think the journalist captured it well.
Joke of the Week
Care of Henry -
How did the Hammerhead go on his test?
